Good Shepherd School remains the oldest Catholic school on the San Mateo Coast and is one of only four private schools that serve the coastal community.

 

As our curriculum has evolved to meet the educational needs of the 21st century, our community has also changed to reflect the greater global community. 

 

We are a diverse and multicultural school, and today, our school serves families of many different faiths, cultures, and backgrounds.

 

We welcome all families, regardless of religion, race, and national and/or ethnic origin or gender, who are looking for a strong academic foundation grounded in core values.

History

In September 1968, Father Peter Kelly, Pastor of Good Shepherd Parish, Sister Virginia Mary, Principal, and Sisters Barbara Rose and Mary Paul of the Sisters of Providence (of Indiana) opened the only Catholic school on the California coast between Daly City and Santa Cruz. 

 

The school began that year with 120 primary students. In 1969, Grade 4 was added. Grades 5, 6, were added in 1970. The seventh and eighth grades were added in 1975, to make a complete elementary school.  In 1988, the school underwent a major transformation with the departure of the religious community, which had founded the school and the transition to a lay administration and staff.
