Last year began a program which will run as part of the Good Shepherd School curriculum for all graduating 8th graders. It is a curated 1-week trip, including flight and accommodations to Washington DC and NYC. It includes visits to our national monuments, the Smithsonian Institute and will even take in a Broadway show. It should be an amazing adventure – fun and mind-expanding – for our 13 and 14-year-olds who are moving on to high school experiences. Parents serve as chaperones and the kids are encouraged to do some of their meal planning and time management. The experience also carries some expense and the kids are all involved in activities that are helping to raise funds to help defray some of the trip cost. The 8th grade Spaghetti Feed, coming up a week from this Saturday, is one of the last major fundraising efforts for this year’s class. All of the 8th graders will be involved in helping to cook, serve, create murals, assist in publicity, send thank you notes and anyway else that helps. It is a great life lesson in taking responsibility to create memorable experiences for themselves and for their friends.
Please attend if you can or suggest to friends or acquaintances that they may want to attend. Let’s help support the graduating class. All of our kids will be 8th graders at some point in the near future!
