Principal’s Message

Welcome to Good Shepherd School

We have been preparing generations of young people to take their place as leaders of the community for over 40 years. As the only Catholic elementary school on the San Mateo Coast we serve students from the coastal communities of Pacifica, Montara, Moss Beach, El Granada and Half Moon Bay as well as families from San Francisco, San Bruno, South San Francisco, Millbrae and Daly City.

A highly qualified and dedicated staff delivers an excellent academic curriculum based on the California State Standards.  In addition to a solid core curriculum all students have access to foreign language class (Mandarin). Our sixth grade class participates in a week long outdoor education program at CCCYO’s Camp Armstrong facility and our eighth grade class spends a week in our nation’s capitol. Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum as teachers use Google Classroom, computer adapted assessments and the infinite resources on the internet to differentiate instruction to better meet the needs of all learners. In grades 4 through 8 each students has access to a laptop . In addition, a dedicated Computer Science Class prepares students to be productive citizens of the digital age through introductions to coding, learning the office suite of programs, digital 3-d modeling , robotics and programming.

We partner with the San Francisco Opera Guild to introduce our students to the wonders of music and drama.

At Good Shepherd School we believe education is a process that includes every dimension of a student’s life:  spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social, cultural, and physical.  Extra-curricular programs such as Band, Boys’ and Girls’ Scouts, Student Council and CYO Athletics offer students more opportunities for growth. Our Extended Care program provides homework help and coordinates with the athletic program to insure that our athletes can balance practice with study time.

As a Catholic institution, we are committed to promoting a deep sense of the dignity and uniqueness of every person and an appreciation and respect for all people.  Commitment to the teaching of Catholic Social Justice is an integral part of of our school. It is very evident in the weekly St. Vincent de Paul Lunch Program.  Each Friday morning two classes with the help of their teachers and parents prepare 120 lunches for a soup kitchen sponsored by the St. Vincent de Paul Society in neighboring South San Francisco. The parents  and students raise the money to sponsor the program, shop for the supplies as well as make and deliver the lunches

Our school community is a family and like a family we are committed to giving our students the spiritual, social and academic tools they will need to be productive members of the 21st century society.

The close-knit and welcoming community made a huge difference

My older son transferred to Good Shepherd after attending public school while my younger son started Kindergarten at Good Shepherd. They were both immediately welcomed by their classmates and also by the student body as a whole. I was amazed that older students at Good Shepherd knew my children's names and interacted with them after school, at Extended Care (the after-school program) and at school events. I also found that the parents of Good Shepherd students were very welcoming andwe were invited to social events starting on the first day of school. The close-knit and welcoming community made a huge difference in both our sons' adjustment to a new school. I continue to be impressed with the diversity of the student body as well as the commitment to academics at each grade level. I am thankful we chose this school for our family

Family & Community Feel

We have been with GSS since 2013; now, both of my daughters attend GSS and we ALL LOVE it. If you are looking for a school that is small, challenges your child in academics, encourages teacher/parent involvement while maintaining a “Family\Community feel” then do consider Good Shepherd School. (Mr. and Ms. S., Children in 4th and 1st grade.)

It really does take a village

It really does take a village to raise children and we are so thankful for the village (Good Shepherd School) that we have in our lives. (M.H., Parent)

Good Shepherd was the best choice we could have made

Good Shepherd was the best choice we could have made for our daughter's education. The student to teacher ratio is excellent and makes me feel that my child gets the attention she needs to succeed. The teachers and staff are all friendly and alwaysavailable for any questions I may have.Although this is only our second year at Good Shepherd, I feel like I've gotten to know everybody, including the staff and students, in a way that wouldn't have been possible at a bigger school.

Good Shepherd School is comprehensive

As parents with children in multiple grades, our perspective of Good Shepherd School is comprehensive and we are proud to say that we can’t recommend it enough. Our experience has been exceedingly rich and gratifying. Not only do we feel that our children are receiving the best education,we are confident that their lives are being enriched through extraordinary teachers, extracurricular activities, and an interactive school environment that promotes morality and kindness. The collaborative approach that the teachers take to education, both through in-year consultation and as the children transition between years, produces an environment whereby each child’s needs/strengths are defined and addressed accordingly by the faculty collective. And their intuition is amazing. The teachers “open-door” policy and routine communication with the parents is a differentiator for the school. We are truly blessed to have found such an nurturing environment for which our children can grow and prosper.
