Good Shepherd was the best choice we could have made

Good Shepherd was the best choice we could have made for our daughter's education. The student to teacher ratio is excellent and makes me feel that my child gets the attention she needs to succeed. The teachers and staff are all friendly and alwaysavailable for any questions I may have.Although this is only our second year at Good Shepherd, I feel like I've gotten to know everybody, including the staff and students, in a way that wouldn't have been possible at a bigger school.

Good Shepherd School is comprehensive

As parents with children in multiple grades, our perspective of Good Shepherd School is comprehensive and we are proud to say that we can’t recommend it enough. Our experience has been exceedingly rich and gratifying. Not only do we feel that our children are receiving the best education,we are confident that their lives are being enriched through extraordinary teachers, extracurricular activities, and an interactive school environment that promotes morality and kindness. The collaborative approach that the teachers take to education, both through in-year consultation and as the children transition between years, produces an environment whereby each child’s needs/strengths are defined and addressed accordingly by the faculty collective. And their intuition is amazing. The teachers “open-door” policy and routine communication with the parents is a differentiator for the school. We are truly blessed to have found such an nurturing environment for which our children can grow and prosper.

Good Shepherd School provides our children with a solid academic foundation

Our family lives in Pacifica and our children have attend Good Shepherd School for several years. Good Shepherd School provides our children with a solid academic foundation along with strong Christian values. The school encourages parent participation and we have a real sense of community. The student to teacher ratio is low,and our teachers are very committed to our children. We love this school!

The close-knit and welcoming community made a huge difference

My older son transferred to Good Shepherd after attending public school while my younger son started Kindergarten at Good Shepherd. They were both immediately welcomed by their classmates and also by the student body as a whole. I was amazed that older students at Good Shepherd knew my children's names and interacted with them after school, at Extended Care (the after-school program) and at school events. I also found that the parents of Good Shepherd students were very welcoming andwe were invited to social events starting on the first day of school. The close-knit and welcoming community made a huge difference in both our sons' adjustment to a new school. I continue to be impressed with the diversity of the student body as well as the commitment to academics at each grade level. I am thankful we chose this school for our family

Family & Community Feel

We have been with GSS since 2013; now, both of my daughters attend GSS and we ALL LOVE it. If you are looking for a school that is small, challenges your child in academics, encourages teacher/parent involvement while maintaining a “Family\Community feel” then do consider Good Shepherd School. (Mr. and Ms. S., Children in 4th and 1st grade.)

It really does take a village

It really does take a village to raise children and we are so thankful for the village (Good Shepherd School) that we have in our lives. (M.H., Parent)

The focus in Religion is on the preparation to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.  Students learn the rituals associated with the Mass as well as the verbal responses.

Students build more sophisticated comprehension and decoding skills and develop the fluency necessary to propel them in to more advanced reading of both informational and literary text.  Students engage with a wide range of increasingly complex text both as listeners and readers. At the same time the student’s language (especially academic language) continues to expand and they become more proficient at writing different types of text.  In second grade students are also introduced to cursive writing.

Mathematics instruction is focused on four critical areas: (1) extending understanding of base-ten notation; (2) building fluency with addition and subtraction; (3) using standard units of measure; and (4) describing and analyzing shapes.

The science curriculum for second grades introduces students to the life cycles of plants and animals in their study of Life Science. In the Earth Life Science unit, they learn about the earth’s past, and its resources.  The Physical Science unit covers topics such as objects in motion and  forces at work.

Students are introduced to the concept of history and the people who made it. They begin to look at our country’s government and learn about our freedoms.  In the area of economics, they learn about the interdependence of producers and consumers. They use maps and atlases to explore our world and learn the fifty states and their capitols.

The technology curriculum is specially designed to build technology skills while integrating the core curriculum subjects: language arts, math, science and social studies. All technology activities, lessons, practices and discussions are aligned with the National Educational Technology Standards. Specific skills taught at this grade level include:

  • Completing Math assignments on Mathletics
  • Recording and playing back a song
  • Using a video camera to communicate with a classmate
  • Using Paint.net to create a digital picture
  • Scanning pictures
  • Editing and formatting scanned images
  • Creating a simple story using Word and Paint.net
